  • 16.11.2009 6th Traditional Lion Dance competition

As every year, some of the best German Lion dance teams assembled to the 6th traditional Lion dance championship in Gevelsberg. Host of this great event was the German Zhou Jia Kung Fu Association under the direction of Sifu Alexander Tschernjawski in cooperation with the TKV (Traditioneller Kung Fu Verband).

At 2 pm, the spectacle started at the Primary School Vogelsang. All in all, nine teams, consisting of partially very young competitors, participated at this competition.

There were 4 teams from the Shaolin Hung Choy School Gevelsberg (Sifu Frank Greinacher). There were also teams from the Zhou Guan Kung Fu Center Schwelm (Sifu Eugen Helmut), the German Zhou Jia Kung Fu Association Haßlinghausen (Sifu Alexander Tschernjawski), the Nam Wah Pai School Regensburg (Sifu Andi Jobst) and two teams of the Nia Kwang Yin Yong Tang School in Siegen (Sifu Seet Chor Thong). Unfortunately the Team from Hamburg (Sifu Tim Otte) was injured.

Spectators as well as competitors watched the competition of the lions excitedly. Although the championship lasted a few hours, there was no thinking of monotony. There were lions climbing benches and other obstacles to get the green and even a drunken lion.

It was a very colourful spectacle of exciting dances and detailed made obstacles. Approximately one hundred spectators waited for the victory ceremony afterwards. But before there was another presentation:
There was a traditional Dragondance performance of the Youth Team from the performance of the Youth Team from the Shaolin Hung Choy School.

The places were as follows:

The liondance team with its dancers Eugen Sissin and Jakob Schmidt of the German Zhou Jia Kung Fu Association Haßlinghausen reached the third place.

The second place went to the Yin Yong Tang School Siegen and its dancers Sergej Schander and Tobias Schefgzyk.

One of the Shaolin Hung Choy teams with its dancers Jörg Förtsch and Yamine Bouchelaghem, “Jin She” got the first place, that previously won the 3rd.Place at the World Kuoshu Championship.

  • 15.09.2009 “World Kuo Shu Championship“

From September 3rd to September 6th the “World Kuo Shu Championship”, the world championship of the Chinese Kuoshu federation, took place in Ulm place and some students of the Shaolin Hung Choy, Gevelsberg, the Zhou Guan, Schwelm and the Zhou Jia Wushu Assn., Sprockhövel, had qualified on different competitions for this championship.

At the competitions, at which competitors from 31 nations participated, the Kung Fu fighters from this region could win more top places than most national teams.

Under supervision of grand Master Frank Greinacher (Gevelsberg), Sifu Thomas Warthe (Gevelsberg), Sifu Leonardo Tarantino (Gevelsberg), Sifu Eugen Helmut (Schwelm) and Sifu Alexander Tschernjawski (Sprockhövel), their students won 11 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 10 bronze medals! Especially named would be André Eitner, who prevailed over a strong fighter from Aserbaidschan in an exciting final fight, and won the first place in the heavy weight full contact category, and also the Tai Ji Quan Team of Sifu Sherry Greinacher, which won a first and a third place.

Furthermore, Gevelsberg’s Liondance Team got a bronze medal at the associated liondance competition.

A result of which the Shaolin Hung Choy School and its branch schools can be truly proud of.

 

  • 01.09.2009 35th jubilee of Shaolin Hung Choy Kung Fu

Thanks to all spectators, supporters and participants for this successful anniversary.

On August 29th 2009, the Shaolin Hung Choy school in Gevelsberg celebrated its 35th anniversary.

Guests of honour like grand master Lim Chin Kim (Singapore), grand master Wong Shiu Fong (Hong Kong), grand master Ho Fun Lok (Hong Kong), grand master Jacky Mak (USA), master Ek Eng Guan (Singapore), master Thomas Tang (USA), just to name a few, were present.

The varied program with demonstrations of all kinds: children demo-team, Tai Ji Quan, a firework, dragon- and liondance, weapon-, bare hand-, and partnerforms, self-defense exercises.

Another Highlight was Loona’s performance that fascinated young and old.

  • 23.05.09 Team Championship in Amsterdam

On 17th May 2009 the Guoshu Cup 2009 took place in Amsterdam. It happened to be a team championship. Each team consisted of three competitors and participated in four categories. In the handforms category Vanessa Greinacher won the third place. In the category short weapons Jörg Förtsch got the second place and Carolin Meyer the third. Peter Olgeiser got the third place in long weapons. In the category partnerforms achieved Vanessa Greinacher und Carolin Meyer the third place as well.At the end of the tournament the team with most point was elected. The first team of the Shaolin Hung Choy, consisting of Vanessa Greinacher, Carolin Meyer and Peter Olgeiser, won this trophy.

• 25.01.2009 - First Coloured Belt Exams in 2009

On Sunday, January 25th, 2009 the students of the German Zhou Jia schools Gevelsberg, Haßlinghausen and Schwelm successfully passed their coloured belt exams. Read more here. Also the Westfalenpost dd. 29.01.2009 reported.

 

• 22.01.2009 - Back to the roots of Hung Choy Kung Fu (Zhou Jia Quan)

Two weeks before last year's Christmas Sifu Frank Greinacher and his students Alexander Tschernjawski and Leonardo Tarantino travelled to Asia to set out on the trail of Kung Fu culture.
